Swimming at Devil’s Pool

Swimming at Devil’s Pool is one of the most sought-after activities at Victoria Falls. Located on the edge of the falls on the Zambian side, the natural rock pool forms during the dry season when water levels are lower, allowing visitors to swim close to the drop-off under guided supervision. Access to Devil’s Pool is typically available from mid-August to early January, depending on annual water levels of the Zambezi River. During high-water months, the activity closes for safety reasons.

The excursion departs from Livingstone Island and includes a short boat transfer followed by a swim to the pool. Professional guides accompany all guests, with strict safety procedures in place throughout the experience. International travelers should note that participants must be confident swimmers and reasonably fit, as the activity involves walking on uneven rocks and swimming in moving water.

Visitors are advised to carry swimwear, quick-dry clothing, sunscreen, and waterproof protection for cameras or mobile phones. Morning departures are often recommended for cooler temperatures and softer light conditions. A valid passport is required when crossing between Zimbabwe and Zambia, and travelers should confirm visa requirements before arrival. Advance reservations are strongly advised, particularly during the peak safari and holiday travel months.
