When you step into the 12 Apostles Hotel & Spa in Cape Town, you’re not just entering a hotel, you are stepping into a world of exclusive experiences and impeccable service. Its location doesn’t hurt either. On the one end, a fynbos-covered mountain range reaches skywards. On the other end, there are incredible views of the Atlantic Ocean stretching as far as the eye can see.
The Ascot Tours team recently visited the 12 Apostles and discovered it is as much a retreat as it is a destination. Liryn de Jager shares what you can expect when staying at this stunning oasis.
With attentive staff, incredible views and world-class offerings, it’s no wonder the hotel is considered one of the best in Cape Town. Its perfect positioning ensures every room comes with spectacular views. The hotel’s design, which blends perfectly into its natural environment, allows one to feel truly at one with the land. Whether gazing out from the comfort of one’s room or enjoying a drink at the Leopard Bar, the views are mesmerizing.
For the more adventurous at heart, the 12 Apostles offers a range of outdoor activities. I took full advantage of this by hiking some of the nearby trails. The fresh air and stunning fynbos gardens provided the perfect backdrop.
The hotel staff goes above and beyond, offering not just world-class service but also engaging in various activities with guests. I had a fantastic time exploring the trails with a staff member who became my unofficial sports buddy, making the experience even more enjoyable. After the day’s adventures, the award-winning 12 Apostle Spa was the perfect place to relax. There are a multitude of massages, facials and other specialist treatments to choose from. Pure bliss!
What is a stay in Cape Town without sampling some of the finest local flavours? The hotel’s wine and biltong pairings are an absolute must-try. A local delicacy, biltong is best enjoyed with a glass of top-tier South African wine and the staff here will guide you through the perfect pairings. Known as the heart of South African social culture, the braai (barbecue) is also a must-try. And I must say – the 12 Apostles has perfected it in their private Braai Room.
The Whale Spotting Bell
One of the most unique and memorable features of the 12 Apostles is the opportunity to spot whales from the outdoor areas between June and December. And here the hotel’s traditional bell-ringing ceremony comes into play. The staff ring the bell whenever a whale is spotted, creating an exciting and communal experience for guests. It’s a fun and unexpected way to feel truly connected to the ocean.
In-house Theatre
If you are looking for an unforgettable evening, the hotel’s dinner-and-movie package is an absolute must. After a delicious meal at Azure Restaurant, you can enjoy a film screening in the comfort of the hotel’s private cinema. It’s the perfect way to unwind, with delicious food and a cosy environment to cap off your incredible experiences of the day.
Arrive in Style
I would be amiss if I didn’t mention that the hotel’s helipad offers transfers and scenic tours of the Cape Peninsula. If this isn’t the epitome of exclusivity and adventure combined, then I don’t know what is.
From whale watching and hiking to gourmet food and wine pairings, this is a place where every guest can find their perfect escape. If you are planning a trip to Cape Town, make sure to put the 12 Apostles Hotel & Spa at the top of your list.
